Vic Socotra

Welcome to

Vic Socotra’s Website

Vic is one of those happy warriors whose career spanned the Cold War and the War on Terror. His associates and friends included Station Hypo veterans from WWII to the founder of the in-country remote intel support of the NILOS in Vietnam. Experience included assignments in tactical, operational and strategic levels of command in three declared conflicts. His time as first Navy intelligence officer assigned to support the Intelligence Committees on the Hill provided insight into how national policy impacts the intelligence community (and vice versa). A tour as Budget Director for the Defense Intelligence Resource Management Office revealed some of the financial tricks and trades involved in multi-billion dollar programs when that was still a fair amount of money. Last tout in uniform included a brief morning stop at the Pentagon on the way to his last government assignment at the Community Management Staff at Langley. A colorful episode of activity as wartime government continuity operations kicked in- a wild ride through interesting places that culminated in assistance to the Secretary of Health and Human Services in the fight against the SARS pandemic, later known as COVID. Civilian tours as a Parkway Patriot in four defense contracting firms gives Vic a unique perspective on intelligence, military and political operations around the world.

About Vic Socotra

Vic retired from government service after 27 years of mostly honorable contributions, concluding a unique career that spanned the intelligence community both domestically and abroad. A Cold Warrior by trade, he first encountered the Global War on Terror in 1979 during the Iranian Hostage Crisis.

Vic is intimately familiar with the maddening intricacies of the inter-agency process in Washington, and he holds deep respect for those still working tirelessly within the bureaucratic trenches—the true silent service.
